Charles S. Mueller was born in Springfield, IL April 6, 1929. He was raised in Wichita, KS where he attended Immanuel Lutheran Church and school. After pre-theological study at St John’s Academy and College in Winfield, KS he attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO, graduating in 1953.
Pastor Mueller’s first parish was Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville Beach, Florida (1953-1957) followed by The Lutheran Church of St. Andrew in Silver Spring, MD (1957-1970). In 1970 he was elected to the first of two terms as president of the Southeastern District of the LCMS.
In 1978 he accepted a Call to Trinity Lutheran Church in Roselle, IL. Since 1992 he has been emeritus on their staff freed by them to serve where the Spirit leads.
During his career he served the church in a number of capacities and received honorary doctorates from St John’s College, Winfield, KS, Concordia University in Bronxville, NY and Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN.
Dr. Mueller currently resides in Bloomingdale, Illinois from where, in addition to writing and speaking on behalf Wheat Ridge Ministries – an organization committed to seeding projects of health and hope in the name of the healing Christ – he staffs the ministry of adult education at Trinity Lutheran Church. He still consults with pastors and congregations that want to know more about the world of families and the many pan- generational challenges that all churches face today.
In 1953 he made the best decision of his life in marrying Audrey Prange of Little Rock, Arkansas. They have been blessed with four children and seventeen grandchildren.
